I cut my teeth in the Rockies, and now enlighten Angelenos about rare and unique cacti from around the world at The Cactus Store, a shop in LA’s Echo Park neighborhood.

Di mana anda akan berada

Echo Park, the heart of the creative arts in Los Angeles. Art decorates the streets of this neighborhood where wild flocks of parrots commute daily alongside a neighborhood that hasn't heard of a 9 to 5 schedule.

I had a great time with Conrad! The cactus store was interesting and I loved climbing on the boulders. It rained a lot the third day so I chose to not do the hot springs, but Conrad and I spent the day exploring other parts of LA that I didn't have a chance to see yet. Conrad is a really cool guy and I would 100% recommend this experience to anyone! You will do things that are not possible to do on your own as a tourist in LA.

Conrad is a very cheerful person. During the experience I learned a lot about rock climbing, especially that it is not as easy as it seems :) I would have been better prepared if I had the right shoes, but Conrad had a spare pair for me, so everything worked out well.

Conrad's trip was awesome. Showed me some cool places that I probably wouldn't have ever gone to or found out about. Looked forward to each and every day of the trip. Great dude and a great trip!

Conrad was very welcoming to us, and adjusted to our schedule and time, asked us when we wanted to pause or to have lunch, gave us some good fooding addresses... he was the perfect guest! We loved our trip to the desert for rockclimbing and the hotsprings in the beautiful setting, the yoga session, the delicious bentos he treated us with... We talked through the whole ride to the sites, it felt really like we were being taken along with friends ;-) Thanks again for the great experience!

My experience with Conrad, the Desert Cowboy was great. I was the only person to sign up so that allowed for some flexibility, which worked for me since my work schedule unexpectedly ended up overlapping with the 1st excursions start time. Because of that overlap and our later start time we ended up hiking a trail outside of Pasadena instead of bouldering, so I can't speak to the bouldering experience. That hike lead to a small waterfall, but because of drought conditions there wasn't much water flowing and the water wasn't too inviting so we ended up just chilling by the pool and chatting. That local trail was a great warm-up for the following day's excursion which was a longer hike into the desert that ended at a swimming hole with hot springs flowing into it. You could tell it's a little-known local spot considering how few "tourist" there were there. It was fantastic spot. The water was welcoming, the locals were friendly and the surrounding was just beautiful. If it weren't for my evening plans that required me to be back in the city by 6pm I would have stayed longer! Overall I can't say the trip description was super accurate but that's because Conrad was willing to tailor it to my schedule - so that alone was great. And instead of him bringing a bento box on our longer excursion we stopped at a local supermarket and he got us some delicious Tortas (sandwiches). That alone was a cool experience because the supermarket was mainly stocked with South American goods. One of my earlier concerns was what gear to bring for the bouldering experience and if I needed any prior experience, but Conrad assured me he was supplying all the technical stuff and to just bring hiking shoesclothes and no experience was needed. What wasn't mentioned but could be useful to future hikers are water shoes as the rocks around the hot-spring can get slippery. Also not mentioned was the meeting spot, which was a coffee shop in Echo Park. It allowed me to get my morning coffee and a quick bite to eat before we headed out every day. As for Conrad, I couldn't ask for a better guide and conversationalist. There was never a lull in our conversations from the moment we met for the cocktails at the Cactus Store (which he had to say plenty about!) to the every last hike. He was also gracious and offered a hand whenever he saw some hesitation from me on the trail. Here a few tips for the inexperienced hikers: Things to bring: sunscreens, a hat, sunglasses, decent hiking shoes ( and maybe water shoe) a light towel swimsuit. Extra snacks - Conrad provides lunch, but it never hurts to pack some extra snacks. A water bottle Things to keep in mind at the swimming hole: An open mind - it's it a swimsuit optional spot. Help keep it a little-know secret. That's what keeps this spot so great!
