Bed and Breakfast Villa Fortezza is in Ascoli Piceno, truly one of Italy’s hidden jewels. With its romaneque churches, the gothic San Francesco, the medieval towers and narrow lanes, the intimate architecture of Piazza del Popolo and everywhere the strong sense of a fiercely independent Comune, as is celebrated twice a year in the Giostra della Quintana an ancient jousting event, it is not surprising that the city is on its way to becoming a World Heritage Site. All proof of a city that, although strangely undiscovered, can legitimately claim to be on a par with those other central Italian cities of greater international fame. Ascoli Piceno’s surroundings are equally remarkable - reachable by car in just 25 minutes from the center of town is the splendid 1800m high Montagna dei Fiori and, in the opposite direction, the sandy beaches of the Adriatic with their myriad of unforgettable seaside restaurants. Villa Fortezza B&B takes its name from the Fortezza Pia, a castle on the hill that rises up right in the heart of the city. Adjacent to that spot is the Villa which was built by the renowned Roman architect Enrico Teodori in the contemporary style in 1967. The building was restored and redecorated in 2008/9. The villa has a large garden with conifers, fruit trees, lawns, a private car park and games for children. Inside there are ample and comfortable communal spaces, a large fire place and bedrooms with bathrooms that are luminous well cared for. In this unexpected green oasis, comfort and tranquility are assured those who come for business or pleasure. Second to none is the view over the city, the Sibillini mountains and, to the East, the just visible horizon of the Adriatic. The discreet courtesy of the owners, Salvatore and Federica, and the rich breakfast which they serve at the guest’s discretion will go a long way to enhancing your stay in this city of the “100 towers”.
