What a great home! Our stay at Jona’s house was perfect from every point of view. First - the home is wonderful- stylish, welcoming and in a perfect location. We particularly liked the heated floors (great antidote for the harsh Icelandic winter) and the wall size windows in the bedroom with a great view to Hvalfjordur. Second, Jona went beyond and above to make our stay special. She welcomed us with burning scented candles and atmospheric music. I can’t say enough good things about our stay. We would love to stay here again in our future trips.

Jona's place is incredible - stylish, clean, amazing location. This was our second stay at her property and it was outstanding again. The location is perfect - about 45 minutes from Reykjavik so easy enough to head into the city for dinner, etc., but far enough to feel remote. The scenery around the house is breathtaking. The house is so quiet - you cannot help but relax here. The seabirds are fun to watch and listen to and we saw the northern lights a couple of times. The house itself is actually quite spacious! Lots of rooms. The kitchen is well stocked and we cooked breakfasts and light dinners there. We enjoyed just relaxing in the living room, listening to music, and just being peaceful. We ventured out for day trips often - we hiked Glymur (about a 20 minute drive away), drove to Snaflesness (about 2 hours away), the Golden Circle with Geysir, went into the glacier (Langoskull) etc. There are not many gas stations nearby so just plan ahead and gas up whenever you are near one. Jona was communicative and welcoming as always! I feel like she's an old friend now. She's helpful but gives you privacy and space. She has such a nice artistic touch to details in the house too, and her own workshop space. We actually ended up buying some ceramic cups from her too, we loved them so much. We loved our stay and hope to go back again and again. We actually joke about moving to Iceland now because it's been so nice when we stay at her place!

The house is amazing and just as advertised. Jona is a wonderfull host. The house is ideally situated to do the golden circle and visit Reykjavik. Although we didn’t see it, the location should be ideal to watch the northern lights. Thanx Jona for a wonderful stay!

Jona's home is truly magical. The unique and beautiful setting and a perfectly balanced home added to our Iceland experience. The kitchen was very well appointed and the house thoughtfully designed to capture the incredible nature surrounding it. It's a great alternative to staying in Reykjavik and provides a lovely starting point for exploring the surrounding area.

Even before we arrived in Kjósarhreppur, Jóna was helpful providing the coordinates to her home located North east of Reykjavik. If you’re using (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps to find your way, I recommend skipping locating the village landmarks along the route and use the GPS coordinates to her house off Road 47, the Miðbuð 1-7 turnoff. Jóna greeted us with a welcoming smile late in the afternoon as we arrived and guided us thru the do’s and don’ts of her home. These were easy instructions to follow and we found them helpful during our stay. Jóna is proactive in supporting recycling and we gladly segregated our packaging/waste products. She also pointed to venues of interest and restaurants inside and outside Reykjavik worth exploring. Jóna was also kind to text us late Friday after receiving an alert to expect the Northern Lights. It’s hard to adequately explain the magic in watching this phenomenon take shape from her house; over the water, between the mountains, dancing between the clouds and stars and over the roof. As design professionals, we appreciate the measured intimacies and intricate simplicity of the house design and the care that went into the siting of the building, the framed views, the open concept plan and selected furnishings for this artisan’s house. We had everything we needed to be comfortable for 8 days. The kitchen was well provisioned and had an excellent layout and orientation for easy conversation with others in the dining and/or living areas including the mezzanine room upstairs. Brilliant! I liked the fact that the TV was tucked away upstairs and out of the main living area and away from the visual experience of the house and the natural landscape. Also, upstairs there’s an elliptical step machine to work off the ice cream. The house has a closed fireplace, however Jóna preferred her guests not use it…noting a bad previous experience. This would have been a plus but it did not detract or distract from our unique and wonderful experience. The one (minor) item we found challenging at first was the single bathroom (inside) door swing, which made it difficult at times for two people to use the bathroom at the same time. An easy workaround though. We found it harder each day to leave this place in the morning to explore the natural wonders of the island given the immediate magical setting. It’s well worth the experience to treat yourself to a good long daily ‘walkabout’ hike along the immediate coastline/road 47 from the house, particularly during dawn and dusk hours. Be careful with petting the horses, as the perimeter fences may be electrified. I got a surprising ‘zing’ from the wired fence while approaching one of the horses located inside a grazing field. We also found the location of the house suitable to explore areas within two hour’s drive. Without spending most of the day in the car, we able to visit Reykjavik (3X), Snæfellsbær, Arnarstapi, Hellnar, þingvellir National Park, Geysir, and the Westman Islands (Vestmannæjar)....

Wow, what a beautiful home! We wish we could have stayed longer. Jóna welcomed us on the last leg of our Iceland trip to her spacious and modern home, just north of Reykjavik. We could have spent hours just taking in the beautiful surroundings and enjoying all the comforts that the home provided. This is a great base for exploring nearby hikes - Glymur, Mount Esja, Thingvellir National Park...or visiting sites along the Golden Circle. We really liked visiting nearby swimming pools and our daughter spent a good amount of time just running around in the tall grass around the home and swishing her feet in the rocks and sand along the fjord. Jóna was an excellent host - emailing us when the Northern Lights were coming (we got an amazing show!) and helping with recommendations for what to do while there. A great place to end our Iceland adventure - we hope to visit again!

Jona's home is a wonderful place to stay while in Iceland. It's in a peaceful private spot right on the sea. The house seems bigger inside than it appears from the photos. There are nice places to gather together but also private spaces to get away, all with beautiful views. The beds, sofas, chairs etc were really comfortable. Jona suggested we stop for groceries on our way there which was good advice as it's not very near to a store. We had breakfast at home in the mornings before leaving for the day. Sometimes we stopped for dinner in a restaurant on the way back, and other times cooked at home. The lovely kitchen is very well equipped and stocked with everything you could want. We found it to be in a good location, 30 minutes or so to Reykjavik, an easy drive to Golden Circle, and not much farther to the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. Jona met us at the house when we arrived to show us around the house. She had maps and lots of helpful information about places to go and things to do in the area. She was very thoughtful and helpful! We would love to return and stay here again!

I am an artist, mother of two sons and a grandmother. I live in the house in Hvalfjörður and I have my studio there as well.
I spend a lot of time in the capital area and I love the contrast between the city life and living in Hvalfjörður in all of it´s glory.
What fascinates me about this type of accommodation is that people get opportunity to stay in an icelandic home and get different experience for the country and its residents. The house is not always available for renting but when you stay, you have the whole house to yourself.
