A great base to explore the south-west of Iceland, with its beautiful places. The accommodation is 2 min. walk from the seaside, black beach. Great to go hiking in the Esja mountain or take a stroll along the seashore, enjoying the birds -the waves -and the freshness in the air. A good 16m out door swimming pool + a hot tub is near the shore.
You can make this your home for a while, and be comfortable.
Last but not least: A good place to watch the amazing Northern Lights from October to March.
We offer 1 room, about 10m2 or 107ft2 in size, with two single beds. Access to bathroom with a shower. A microwave, coffee maker, electric kettle and fridge is available for you. The coffee and the tea are already there. Here you can enjoy pure nature, fresh air and the ocean waves, with only a 2 min. walk to a black beach, where you can go bird watching.
Quiet suburb, called Kjalarnes, in Reykjavík capital area. This is an excellent place to stay when you visit the south-west of Iceland for a longer or a shorter period. Only 2 min. drive up to road no. 1, which is the main road around Iceland.
The accommodation has been approved and licensed by the authorities.
Is called Grundarhverfi , in Kjalarnes district . The village, which is a suburb of Reykjavík since 1998, has about 700 inhabitants.
The village is located between the shore and the west slopes of the Esja mountain (914 meters high)
A beautiful view on Reykjavík-city is over the ocean.
The city-center is ca. 30 min. drive away. It takes about 50 minutes by bus. ( on the bus website : straeto . is )
With a stop in Mosfellsbær ( bus stop: Háholt ) the nearest town 15 min. away, with its many interesting places, and services.
Bus transportation to both north and west Iceland is 7.min on foot distance from house. One bus fare for adults is 440,- Icelandic krónur. The main road ; the ring road nr.1, around Iceland, lies about 600 meters away.
A petrol station is here, where you can also shop for necessities. Cheaper stores are the Bónus or Krónan stores. Both are in the next town ; Mosfellsbær, as in many other towns in Iceland.
Things of interest:
The Icelandic Sagas are famous. The "Kjalnesingasaga", written in the thirteenth century, takes place here in this neighbourhood .This Saga is the youngest of the Iceland-Sagas. Esja, the half troll and her son Búi are the main characters in the story. It is about a battle between heathendom and Christianity, and peoples relationships.( related info. sign is by the beach )
This is a great location for you to explore south -west Iceland by car.You need not travel far to see and visit interesting places. The Icelandic nature has a lot to offer all year round. Historic areas, fjords, valleys and the magnificent waterfalls. Icelands highest waterfall ,Glymur, lies deep in Hvalfjörður fjord, about 30 min. drive north from here.
A drive to Þingvellir, our magnificent national park, the old parliament area ,takes just about 40 min. The Atlantic ocean ridge is very visible there. A sight to see !
The great waterfall Gullfoss and the famous Geysir and Strokkur, both hot springs, in Haukadalur valley are about an hour and a half away. A great store, Álafoss , in Mosfellsbær- town ,has a wide range of the colorful Icelandic woolen products and other handmade objects. One of our oldest wool factories.
A Glass-Gallery and sale, and a hand-workshop are here in the Grundarhverfi village. Brautarholts golfvöllur; a beautifully situated golf course, only 5 min. drive. A culture-home of the Nobel price winner Halldór Laxness, 15 min. drive.
You can find a horse rental in Mosfellsbær valley.( on the way to Þingvellir )
The mountains around Mosfellsbær town have popular hiking paths. They are marked with orange poles.For instance from the top of Úlfarsfell-mountain, is a wonderful panorama .
The mountain Esja, is also very popular for hiking and is just under 10 minutes drive away. Free parking spot and a café and is supported by bus You can find here in the district many other hiking areas. both easy and those more challenging. They are all within a short driving distance.
Last but not least: Here you can relax and enjoy warm geothermal heated outdoor swimming pool (16 m) with great hot pots.

No smoking inside the house.
Peace and quiet must be at 24:00 in the evening.
When you are out , please do not leave the windows open.( This is for safety, due to occasionally stormy weather .
If you are out and weather is fair please open the window ;using the first opening.
Leaving the heating on 2-3 is sufficient in the summer. Never leave the heating on less than 1.
Please open the window a bit for better ventilation and avoid damp on the window. If your clothes are wet then it is best to dry them in the garage,not in the room.
Bathroom: keep the ventilation on, while- and after you take a shower,until the damp is gone.
Departing time is before 12:00 o'clock. You need not clean, but please leave the room tidy.
You can leave the trash in the bin outside. We sort for recycling: paper, clean plastic, glass jars/bottles, plastic ones, and aluminum cans + batteries. Thank you.
