A tiny garden studio apartment with its own entrance in the Périgord for nature lovers, walkers, birders, foodies, star-gazers and those researching their French genealogy. Simple, quiet, beautiful. Our garden is a wildlife garden combined with a herb garden and is surrounded by fields and old hedge rows. PLEASE NOTE: AirBnb insists on saying Ma Laverie is in Hautefort; it is not. It is in Granges d'Ans, 6 km south of Hautefort.
We offer a SMALL*, ground floor studio apartment in the Périgord countryside. It is deliciously cool on hot summer days. It opens onto a courtyard garden of herbs. You have access to a large terrace with hammocks in the summer.
The apartment is a studio or like a granny's apartment: one room, with a kitchen area and a bathroom. The interior walls separating the three spaces are sliding Japanese doors of wood and rice paper and can be removed if you wish to make one big space.
The kitchen has an oven, microwave, refrigerator, two-burner hob, kettle, coffee maker and washing machine, all small. There is a long table/counter with two stools. The bathroom has a toilet, tiny sink and big shower. The main room has a double bed, a small desk with chair and a small chest of drawers. Hooks on the back of the door are for the clothes on hangers. Bedding and towels are provided. Two windows look northeast over fields. The door opens southeast onto the courtyard.
No smoking. No pets are allowed. The nearest shops are 6 kilometers away (in Hautefort or Badefols d'Ans), as is the nearest medical centre (Hautefort). Thus, you will need transportation. HOWEVER - every Wednesday at 14.00 (2pm) a small grocer's on wheels comes to the house, so you can top up your shopping.
The Perigord is a very charming area of gently rolling, very green hills, some beautiful villages such as Saint Robert, and gastronomic delights such as foie gras, walnuts and walnut oil and truffles. Hautefort is the nearest chateau. Nearby towns are Périgueux, Sarlat, Brive-la-Gaillarde; further afield are Bergerac, Bordeaux and Limoges. The scenery is not dramatic but the air is very clean and, consequently, the star-gazing is superb (there is an astronomy club with very big telescopes and educational evenings in Thiviers). From late May to September, the area has many food markets and flea markets or brocante fairs. Caves of the region include: Tourtoirac, Lascaux, Font-de-Gaume, and Villars.

La Laverie is not child-proof in any way, so children are NOT permitted.
- This is a quiet place for enjoying nature. A number of features make it unsafe for children, which is why they are not permitted. Please do not smoke anywhere in the studio or in the gardens and fields. Two people really is the maximum. Quiet time aft(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)pm.
- We repeat - NO CHILDREN! - The Japanese screens are of rice paper and can be damaged by small fingers; there is an open pond and there are poisonous plants, both of which could be fatal to small children.
