The cottage was built in the mid 17th Century and until the beginning of the 20th Century was the home of the village blacksmith. It is reputed that Wellington had his horse re-shod there whilst visiting the nearby Julians Park. Before the village school was opened, what is now the kitchen, was used as a dame school where children were taught by the blacksmith's wife.
The property was purchased by Susan's grandfather in 1921 and the gardens landscaped by her father who was a Chelsea Flower Show gold medal winning designer and constructor. The garden is made up of lawns, flower beds and borders, terraced areas suitable for eating and sitting outside, and a lovely feature well. Parking for up to 3 cars is available close to the house in a gated driveway.
The house is well equipped and comfortable for up to 4 people with a choice of two double beds and two single beds, 3 bedrooms in total. The kitchen is equipped with an electric oven and hob, large fridge freezer, microwave, toaster, kettle and a feature stone larder. There is a bathroom upstairs and a shower room downstairs, a hair dryer is supplied. The sitting room has a variety of seating options, an indoor fireplace and TV with DVD player. The property also benefits from Wifi throughout.
A wonderful feature of the cottage is its cosiness in wintertime and the coolness in the summer months.
As guests you will have use of the whole property and are invited to enjoy the garden (maintained by your hosts), which extends to about half an acre. You can come and go at your leisure during your stay and the property benefits from off road parking.

Sue's grandparents moved from Singapore back to the UK in 1918 and then subsequently purchased the cottage in 1921. Sue has grown up in the village and we have raised our own family here. We have two daughters and two grandchildren. Our eldest daughter is married to a New Zealander and they live in Auckland.
We celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary this year and Robert's retirement as a Chartered Building Surveyor. We enjoy being active and gardening.
Our Airbnb journey so far has been wonderful, allowing us to meet lovely guests and their families from all over the world. The cottage has even be used in a recent TV programme featuring Marcus Brigstocke!
