A short drive away is the market town of Marlborough which benefits from an 18 hole golf course dating back to 1888. Every Wednesday and Saturday the high street hosts a market where you will be able to find anything from locally produced meat and vegetables to plants, pottery and pashmina's. Stonehenge is a 35-minute drive and Salisbury with its Cathedral is 45 minute drive.
The city of Bath is only an hour away with endless things to visit such as The Roman Baths, The Pump Room, Pulteney Bridge and Bath Abbey.
Stable Cottage is also very well situated for those who want to visit 'Downton Abbey', which is barely 50 minutes away. There are special tours to Highclere Castle which is south of Newbury. The castle only opens for 90 days a year; needless to say it is a very popular tour.
