Welcome! I am a fan of Yoga, Good Health and Happiness. I really like people & travellers. I run Cranleigh House with my partner Stewart Johnston.
We like to make sure that our guests are comfortable and well cared for. Stewart and I are both Yoga teachers and health practitioners & we both enjoy introducing people to new ideas in these fields.
We are not a very usual B&B, as we choose to be a vegetarian (meat & fish free house) and to be an alcohol free venue, not to have TV's in our rooms and to be completely non smoking on our outside terrace. Because of this we can be a good destination for people who are wishing to be in an environment without these influences. We also have a large yoga room which is usually available for silent meditation practice in the morning before breakfast.
We cater for people who are on alternative diets or have special requirements in this area for example: gluten free, dairy free, raw food or any other interesting diets. We always have a selection of alternative milks and carbohydrates.
Cranleigh House started as a small community of like minded people coming together with similar aims and objectives; a love of Mother Earth and a love for humanity in general and a wish to see people enjoy good health and happiness and to reach their full creative potential in their lives. We have a beautiful 18th Century walled garden where we grow well mineralised vegetables & fruit for our kitchen.
We recycle as much waste as we can. We make compost from our kitchen vegi and fruit waste. We have a solar system to make the most of the Sun's rays.
We bought this house as it is close to a local power centre, a small but beautiful mountain, Holdstone Down, on Exmoor and we love taking people up this mountain and introducing them to its healing energies and showing people this incredible area of outstanding natural beauty! You've heard of 'Reiki': channeling energy to others or your self, well, on Holdstone Down we do 'Big Reiki' we become channels for energy to be sent out to the world as well as friends & family.
Cranleigh House was owned and run as a healing centre in the early 1960's by Mary King, mother of a fantastic spiritual teacher and Yogi, George King. So we carry on that tradition and have healing and alternative therapies available, just ask us in advance and we can book you an appointment while you are here.
You can benefit from different alternative health advice and treatments from Homeopathy to Massage or Reflexology. We are also associated to The Heart Centre, run by our friend Amanda Jayne Staddon, which is a few minutes walk up the road.
We are a B&B for people on Holidays or wishing for a short break and we also act as a B&B style retreat centre for those who need to retire from the world for a short time to recover their strength and health or focus on spiritual practices.
Here you can practice Yoga and eat good vegetarian, vegan or raw food, walk the scenic coast path or just relax and chill out.
I love walking in nature, drawing, healing plants, cooking, sailing, water sports, dancing and lots more.....I love music and we have a piano and lots of musical instruments.
Stewart trained as an aircraft engineer, he is a very practical person and loves projects in the garden.
My favourite motto is one of Swami Sivananda's 'Serve, Love, Give, Purify, Meditate, Realise'
My favourite Books are all by George King: The Twelve Blessings, The Nine Freedoms & Jesus Comes Again. Also Feel the 'Fear and Do it Anyway' by Susan Jeffers and Marlo Morgan's 'Mutant Message Down Under.' I am also inspired by Swami Sivananda's book 'Sadhana,' which gives lots of very good tips for spiritual practice and Yogananda's book 'Autobiography of a Yogi' , a must read for anyone interested in the spiritual life and metaphysics!
I like watching Romantic comedies and feel good factor films. I enjoy the film of 'The Celestine Prophecy' as I'm really interested in people and psychology but I also like adventure with a positive message, in the midst of chaos, like 'Lord of the Rings'.
I've just been sailing from Plymouth to Falmouth along the Cornish coast and I enjoy being out in the open air and exploring countryside and different parts of the UK. On my way back I visited the gardens of Trelissick and the Eden Project.
I like staying in out of the way and romantic places.
Yes, you've guessed it, I'm an Aquarian.....!
