The village of Jinjana is quaint with a market, perfect for grabbing groceries and making dinner in the homes well equipped kitchen. The area is not great if you don't have a car and is 2km inland not on the coast as the map shows which from our understanding is an air B and B issue. Martina was great and arranged for us to be picked up and brought to Jinjana from Drace.
The house is nicer than the images shows. but It was posted as if it was by the water but it is in a village far from the sea.. Martina claimed- and I believe her- that it was airbnbs map mistake. But on her listing she shows images of the rocks and sea so you would expect it to be close to water. When we realised it is far from the sea and in a small village Martina was very concerned. We were too tired to look for new accommodation and the house was nice so we decided to stay. Its a cheap accommodation in a nice house of three floors but it was a heatwave at the time so the top floor was extremely hot and couldn't really be used. The area is full of mosquitos and the house didn't provide any nets for the windows which would be something Martina hopefully organise for future guests. We bought electric protection, but that was not enough for protection and we have to keep the windows close in the night and that was very, very hot. The house itself is very nice and nicely decorated. The kitchen fully equipped. An air condition would have improved our sleep... The night before leaving, we were asked by the cleaner to leave 9am in the morning, which I found far too early. At least one should be able to stay and check out at 11am. We were ok with it as we were leaving anyway. The location was different from we expected as already mentioned. The village is great but don't expect to find anything to eat at night as they have very random opening times at the one restaurant. There is a cafe but it is only open in the mornings. There are supermarkets and some wineshops and it is lively in the day. The sea is a 10 min drive away and easy access and the village Drace nearby has an excellent fish restaurant.
Martina's house is in a lovely, quiet location in the village of Janjina. The house itself is set back from the road in a pretty old part of the village. It is secure and safe and it is tastefully decorated (sometimes hard to find!). We were a group of 7 - 2 mothers with 5 children under 7 and it worked really well. There isn't a sitting room as such but the kitchen is big enough to sit around the table and there is a sweet terrace outside on the first floor (alongside the kitchen). There are no fans or air conditioning so it was hot, especially in the attic room but we weren't expecting any because it wasn't mentioned in the listing. We had a slight issue with the kettle and oven blowing the fuse but Martina was right at the end of the phone arranging for it to be fixed that day. There was great internet access too. Parking wasn't clear when we greeted but there is a designated space for your car. There are two supermarkets in Janjina and a sandy-ish beach and restaurants just down the road in Drace. We were en route to Orebic and it was the perfect stop off location and house Thank you Martina!
