We have booked a weeks stay very last minute, with no expectations at all, only that the photo's on the airbnb website looked very promising. It turns out it was the best choice we could ever make.
The apartment itself is beautifully new refurbished, but in character with the old building of the 18th (?) century. It's located on a beautful square in St Jean de Vaux, with gives you the feeling you've stepped into a combination of the middle ages and modern times. Outside of the apartment you can sit on the balcony and enjoy the peaceful spot (although I'm a light sleeper I've slept very well here, so no problems with the apartment being located in the village!) When you walk from the courtyard through the garage, you enter the big garden, which is located on the backside. It's so beautiful and our dog Bommel liked it there very much (with the company of Max & Patricia's lovely dog Birdy). We had lots of relaxed times in the garden and combined this with trips to lovely villages and city's such as Beaune, Brancion (great suggestion of Max, who was very helpfull with accommodation us in finding trips and other sites/activities). Also, only 200 metres away is a campsite with swimming pool and restaurant, which we both enjoyed. The restaurant has very good, simple food and a great terrace. This made us happy to stay in St Jean de Vaux even more; we took great walks in and around the village with our dog Bommel, great vignards and country lanes are at your doorstep here. So it's a match made in heaven combined with the great hospitality of Max and Patricia. They are really kind people and we had a great time talking to them. In total we have spoken 3 languages among each other: English, French and German!;-) We felt at home from day one, they know exactly how and when to offer you help, not being too pushy but if needed, being very helpful. Of course it helped that the apartment is so great: everything is so tastefully decorated and you have everyting you need with the dishwasher and washing machine, that we could have stayed here for longer and were sorry to leave. We will definitely return, thank you very much, Max and Patricia!
