The only lights you'll see are stars. Fully furnished home on 20 wooded acres, minutes from crystal-clear Lake Crescent and its historic lodge. 2 BRs, 1.5 ba. Explore Olympic Nat'l Park, or enjoy the quiet with a fire and the view of Mt Storm King.
Every window you look out of—and there are lots of them—brings your eyes to rest on trees and mountain and sky and green. The light and time of day change the scene hourly. Inside is cozy but spacious. We’ve been working on this house for a while. We laid the pine floors ourselves, as well as the slate floor in the dining room. We hand-selected from a nearby beach the stones inlaid in the dining room floor. We haven’t finished the fireplace, but the antique mantle makes it feel that way. We faced the queen bed in the master bedroom toward the windows so that Mt Storm King appears across the valley as the first thing that greets you each morning. Sometimes, the moon or sun travels along the ridge to the south and lights up the trees on the top. We have binoculars for eagle sightings, meteor showers, and the journey of the moon. The deck off the bedrooms is a good place to sit, sip, and watch.
We usually have plenty of firewood for fires either inside or out in the fire-pit. There are lots of games, music, and books. Even if it is grey outside, the magnificence of Olympic National Park—much of which is only minutes away—will draw you out. We provide a full list of things to do, both in the park and in the surrounding areas.
The kitchen is large and easy to work in. It has a slow cooker, a food processor, and basic supplies—any equipment you’d need for a gourmet meal. The long, narrow, wooden dining room table seats eight quite comfortably. There's a queen bed in the master bedroom, and in the other bedroom there is a bunk with a full-sized bed on the bottom and a twin on top. We also have a couple of adult-sized sleeping pads for the floors, with sheets and/or sleeping bags and pillows available.

You're not likely to see us--we live in Portland, Oregon, most of the time. But we're happy to talk on the phone or via e-mail if you're interested. It's possible you'll see James's mother Lynne, who's our caretaker and lives nearby.

BRAND NEW--we now have a satellite internet connection and wifi in the house. You'll also find a DVD player, but there's no broadcast TV of any kind. (Please don't stream movies, however, since our data plan is limited.) Cell phone service depends on your carrier: Sprint and Verizon customers have few problems, but T-Mobile and AT&T users have no service in the house, though some of our guests have reported getting a signal outside the house. There is a land line in the house for emergencies and local calls. Please don't use it for long distance calling.
We've built a swing set/slide for your kids! Actually, we did it for our kids, but they're not using it much anymore! Also, we have a chest full of toys appropriate for young children or toddlers, and we have float toys also for when you go to the lake. There are some board games available as well.
Bring your passport if you want use the ferry out of Port Angeles to visit Victoria, B.C.
Please let us know if there's a change in the number of people in your party; with enough advance notice, that may not be a problem. We don't charge for extra people, but we do need to know how many will be there so that we can best prepare for both you and the guests after you.
Please do not stream movies. Our internet connection has a limited data allowance, and if we go over that allowance, we might incur extra charges, and the speed reduces to dial-up speed.
We don't allow pets because this area is a forest with wildlife. (Also, most trails in the National Park don't allow them.) Contact us for exceptions regarding service animals.
No smoking indoors; please collect butts in a container and put them in the outside trash. Please do not toss cigarette butts into the woods.
We have AC but If you care to open the windows, only open the windows with screens. We have a wide range of insect wildlife…they're better out than in!
Feel free to use the fire-pit, but do not leave it unattended, and douse it with the hose before you leave. Also, please no fireworks, whatsoever.
Feel free to roam around the property, but please respect our neighbors' privacy by respecting the property boundaries. See the map in the house that details where these boundaries are.
We're delighted to share our "house in the woods," as our kids call it. We know the world is full of beautiful places, and we love ours, and we hope you will too.
