A spacious apartment in a lovely converted manor house. Set in 5 acres of gardens & grounds, with parts of the house 300 years old, it occupies a beautiful, quiet, rural position in an area of outstanding natural beauty, with much of the adjacent land owned by the National Trust.
The Salcombe estuary is a short walk, while the pretty village of South Pool, at the head of another creek, is 20 minutes walk, but longer coming back - as it's rather a steep hill.
Halwell House provides the ideal location for a restful family holiday, or romantic getaway. Surrounded by glorious scenery, with plenty of good beaches within easy reach, you're a 5 minute drive, or 20 minute walk from the village of South Pool, where a stream meanders past the lovely old Millbrook Inn, which is renowned for good food.
The Salcombe estuary is just a short walk from the house.
No 7 is a spacious flat on the top floor, with a comfy sitting room furnished in true English traditional style, with a dining area for 6 off it. Bedroom one has a king size bed and a divan, with modern en-suite and a large wardrobe. Bedroom 2 has 2 singles, a large wardrobe and chest of drawers. One cupboard is for the owner's sole use.
The family bathroom has just been completely re-fitted and redecorated, although very modern looks don't always mean practicality, as the trendy shower head is, well, pretty useless! Okay for hair washing I suppose, but you're better off showering in the en-suite!
The kitchen is unquestionably small, but has ceramic hob, with extractor over and oven under; frig/freezer and microwave. Plenty of room for shopping in the cupboards and frig. and a good selection of pans/ utensils etc.
There's a laundry room in the cellar, which is shared. Machines take £1 coins. Whirligig line outside.
Guests can use the entire grounds, excluding the paved areas outside other apartments - but please take charge of young children, especially in the vicinity of the pond in the lower garden.
A Guests Information booklet will be found in the sitting room which tells you of beaches, pubs, walks, shops etc - and more about the flat.
Use the entire flat and grounds, other than paved areas outside other apartments. National Trust footpaths, and the continuation of the drive gives access to the creek (actually called Fleet Bay) and Halwell Wood

I'm generally available on the phone and always on email - and there's a local co- host on hand if needed.

Local tide tables hang in the kitchen, so you can walk the fore shores without getting trapped by the tide, but REMEMBER tide times shown are GMT: for BST (Summer time) you must ADD 1 HOUR.
HEATING: central heating is by electric night storage heaters, meaning the radiators build up heat overnight, so they're at their hottest in the morning - but tend to run out as the evening wears on! Hardly ideal! So, if it's cold, be sure that the input dial on the rads is at full and turn the output down during the day then up in the evening. But don't worry, you won't be cold as the heat will have been on for a few days prior to your arrival, getting the structure pre-heated for you, plus two back-up oil filled radiators, both of which are highly efficient, with the one on the window wall of the sitting room especially so, and comes with a timer to turn it on when you're likely to need it - particularly handy if you go out for a meal and want to return to a snug sitting room. Bedrooms are adequately catered for by the storage radiators, we find.
Children falling downstairs can be prevented by locking the door at the top with the key provided.
With the exception of the sitting room dormer window, all windows will open just enough for ventilation, not exit. However, in case of fire those windows have push clips either side to enable full opening and exit - or entrance by the fire service.
Chris is well travelled and gets by in French and Spanish. Fond of history, art & architecture, and good food. I am a widower and live with a dog, and have a live-apart-partner called Frankie who lives 2 minutes walk away from my very old cottage in a Somerset village
Having discovered Airbnb some years ago, we no longer stay in hotels - mega fans!
Until her death my wife and I let the flat for much of the year via an agent, since then I make it available to my children and grandchildren first, then to all those who will appreciate the beauty and tranquility of this exceptional area.
