The "Tardis" is a refurbished 1960s 2-bed. apartment in the very heart of Lastarria, with a large balcony overlooking Santiago's most exciting street. Filled with natural light, on the top floor of a six apartment building, with a modern kitchen and lovely livingroom area. Our neighbourhood has four of Chile's most important museums of art and culture including the GAM. A short walk to the city's main park, Parque Forestal and Cerro St. Lucia, restaurants, Metro, universities, and live music.

Ruang
The Tardis is a very comfortable single level two-bedroom apartment. The light is exceptional and there is no building directly opposite so the windows to the balcony and on the balcony can be open all the time. You can listen to the live music in the street from the balcony, from opera to rhythm and blues to jazz, to Andean music. Then you can retire to the bedrooms at the back of the apartment and enjoy a quiet night’s sleep.

With architects' eye for the detail, we have taken great care with the restoration of this great 60’s apartment. Original parquetry floors throughout gives the apartment a warm homely feeling and the original baldosa floor tiles in the kitchen have been reproduced for the balcony in keeping with the 1960s style. The daybed on the balcony is a beautiful place to have a siesta in the sun filled afternoon or simply enjoy a glass of wine or coffee as you plan where to go in the barrio. The sunsets from here are lovely.

The kitchen is fully equipped and with supermarkets and street markets close by you'll be able to cook up a storm for yourself, your family or your friends.

We (Anthony and Beatriz) have lived in the Tardis to ensure that nothing is missing. However, we will be very happy to hear your suggestions. We welcome you with a good bottle of wine and one of the emblematic brand of Chilean chocolates.

We speak fluent English and Spanish and are more than happy to share with you our knowledge of Santiago, particularly in regards to its urban and architectural wonders.

Akses tetamu
The full apartment is available so you can make yourself at home for a long or short stay. This is the top floor of the four storey building and there are no other apartment entrances on this level. You feel like you're on top of the world and there is no one coming or going to disturb you.

Perkara lain yang perlu diketahui
The apartment is on the fourth floor and there is no lift in the building.

Santiago, Región Metropolitana, Chile

Lastarria is the tourist destination in Santiago. It has the nation's cultural centre, the GAM (Gabriela Mistral Cultural Centre) as its core and is always full of activities, exhibitions and performances (http://www.barriolastarria.com/). The metro station Universidad Catolica, is beside the GAM and is on line 1, the most important line in the network that connects to the whole city.

Lastarria is a small triangular island in the centre of Santiago. It is bordered on the northern side by Parque Forestal (Forest Park) and the Mapocho River that connect Plaza Italia and the Museum of Fine Art (Museo Bellas Artes). The western side is defined by Cerro Santa Lucia, a wonderful hill with views of Santiago that is a spiral park designed in the late 19th Century that connects the Fine Art Museum with the main street Alameda. The southern side of this island triangle is Alameda (Avenida General Bernardo O'Higgins) that leads from Cerro Santa Lucía to the GAM and onto Plaza Italia, the public space for the start of all soccer (football) celebrations and political demonstrations.

The neighbourhood (barrio) has supermarkets, chemists and all of life's necessities and some of the best selection of restaurants in Santiago. Liguria, traditional Chilean food, is situated in the four floors of a French neo-baroque building. Bar Berri has good, cheap food, wine, beer and spirits in the bar that is like a sailing ships hull situated below a salon if you prefer a higher class of decor. The Independent Republic of Pisco has 100 different piscos to sample and exquisite food to accompany your choice of this unique spirit. Bocanariz has 300 different chilean wines from which sample and choose to accompany your meal. A new Vietnamese restaurant is opening in the boutique Gallery Lastarria and great Peruvian food is also available. Freshly baked bread is always available and La Mensajeria has the best homemade empanadas in the city. Good coffee can be had at Blooms or if you like, Starbucks is discreetly located in the barrio as well. The world famous ice-cream parlour Emporio la Rosa has two outlets in the barrio, one on the corner of Merced, Monjitas and Parque Forestal that is a must visit with outdoor tables and chairs.

We have five bookshops and three specialist wine retailers in the barrio and there are five important art museums in the immediate area including contemporary art, classical art, photography, anthropology and illustration. Busking is very active in the barrio and most nights there are acts on street corners or in the pedestrian section of Lastarria. More often than not a street performance parade that takes over the whole street for half an hour. An antique fair is located next to the GAM and another street market is in Lastarria with books, jewellery, art and antiques. All of this stops around 11:00pm and restaurants and bars are all closed by midnight. Across the river is Barrio Bella Vista for the all-night fun seekers. Lastarria is a residential neighbourhood and the neighbourhood committee has fought hard and successfully to maintain this culture and character.

The architecture in the area is fascinating and there are three examples of Luciano Kulczewski's work (known as the Chilean Gaudí) including his home and studio, the College of Architects and Hotel Lastarria. You don't have to leave the barrio to experience the whole of Chilean culture in a triangle of two square kilometres.

Anthony and Beatriz have been residents of Lastarria, Santiago for five and seven years respectively after moving from Australia. For Anthony its the first time living in Santiago, for Beatriz it is a return home. We love Santiago, its buildings, public spaces, geography, climate and culture and are both working in the area of urban design, art and architecture. We have travelled throughout Chile, lived in Central America, and visited European and Asian countries many times for work and leisure which seem inseparable as our focus of both is on cities. We love the south of Chile, perhaps the most beautiful, majestic place that we have seen and been on our tiny, fragile, planet earth.
