There is absolutely nothing bad to say about the Yabbiekayu property so here's a brief review. Firstly, I need to thank my karma that I came across Yabbiekayu on TripAdvisor during my search for accommodation around Jogja. Nestled in a village neighbourhood with a vast paddy field right next to it, it was the perfect setting that I was looking for - certain kind of peace and ambiance, day and night. You are guaranteed a very chilled and laid back atmosphere that magically melt all your worries away. The host and team really knows about warm hospitality and are sincerely personable that beats many big hotel establishments. A piece of warning, the rooms are luxe enough to tempt you to cancel the day's programme. Which if you did, you will be able to feast on 3 square home cooked meals which are so wholesome and flavourful I wish I could kidnap Ibu Narsi home. Little thoughtful touches within the bungalow makes it so easy to love being there. I had a very good starting point here in getting to know Jogja which is truly captivating! Yabbiekayu, is certified awesome and I highly recommend spending a minimum of two nights here. Writing this review is making me reminisce my time at Yabbiekayu and it's making me groggy from post holiday hangover. Jogja, see you soon. With love from Malaysia.

We had a really pleasant and comfortable stay at Yabbiekayu. The homes are original and beautiful and you can see that a lot of thought has been put into designing and landscaping the area around each house so that it is Eco-friendly and is built in consideration of the environment, which is a really great idea. The staff are great - friendly, helpful, considerate and also very accommodating. On our first night, the water heater in our room wasn't functioning and upon hearing about it, Dave, the owner, attended to it promptly and desperately tried to have it fixed immediately. When the problem couldn't be resolved the same night, he made sure that we were still feeling comfortable and even offered his bathroom for us to use, which was very sweet of him. The rest of our stay was great, nice breakfasts in the mornings and I also had the chance to enjoy a home-cooked dinner by the Ibu chef one night, which was delicious. She makes the best tempeh I've ever tasted in Indonesia! I would definitely recommend Yabbiekayu if you're looking of something situated a little out of the city proper (20 mins by car or motorcycle). You'll be surrounded by a lovely little Javanese kampung (village) and a few other quaint little hotels (you can use their spa and pool too) and pretty rice fields.Yabbiekayu is a great choice for a non-too-commercial, quiet and relaxed stay in Jogjakarta. Being nestled in a village, you do really feel like you're part of the community there and that is quite a nice experience to have. We look forward to coming back again in the future!

Yabbiekayu homestay is a truly magical place. We wanted to have authentic experience in the end of our trip to Java and we couldn't imagine better stay than this hidden paradise just a bit outside of Yogyakarta city. Vegan breakfast upon request, I still dream about that delicious food we had there everyday. Bungalow itself is just stunning, designed to the smallest attention to detail like yoga matts, earplugs and even a mini-bar which is stocked up with all the cravings you might need while staying and obviously the famous outdoor bath waiting for you after long walks around the city. Surrounded by paddy fields it was amazing to see the small sustainable farm full of organic fruit and vegetables growing just outside your door. Me and my friend were warmly welcomed by Babun and his team, and they were making sure that we are happy with everything throughout the whole stay. All of the staff members are the sweetest and kindest people, always smiling and happy to help yet making sure you have the privacy you need. We had a pleasure to meet even the owner Dave who shared his knowledge and experience living in a local Javanese village. If I ever go back to Yogyakarta I know I would stay at Yabbiekayu and recommend it to everyone! Thank you for a beautiful and unforgettable memories we brought back with us from Indonesia and for running this little oasis so we can all runaway from our daily lives and worries to enjoy some peaceful time. Note: One thing to consider, try to avoid religious celebrations as there are three mosques around and you can hear prayers early morning.

Yabbiekayu is an amazing property and I am so happy that I got a chance to stay there. The property is located in a village and has a nice garden and adjacent rice fields. There is also an onsite restaurant which has wonderful food. We stayed in bungalow 2, which is beautiful and just the right size for 2 people to stay comfortably for a longer period of time. I only stayed for one night and wish I could have stayed longer! The property is staffed mostly by locals, who are extremely attentive and happy to help in any way. I was contacted by staff as soon as I booked and they helped me arrange transportation to view nearby temples. Sukir, our driver, was super friendly and knowledgeable - I highly recommend his services! The only downside of this place is that you can hear several nearby mosques at many points throughout the day, but they do provide earplugs. Overall, if you have a chance to stay here, do it!

The Bungalow located in Tembi village, which is secluded from the city centre, a perfect place to getaway. It was really a place that we were looking for. Even though we only stayed for one night but they outdone themselves by the services, the food (oh that burger tempe was delicious), the room. We will definitely come back and spend more nights there.

Yabbiekayu is managed by a small team of dedicated staff including;
The amazing Bakti the Guests Relations Manager who will probably email you and welcome you to join the online phone group to assist you with all your needs.
The truly awesome Babun our senior guest relations officer who will quite likely welcome you on arrival, and the charming and delightful Astina and JJ our guest relations officers who will probably meet you and assist during your stay.
All speak perfect English, have travelled overseas, and have extensive experience in assisting foreigners and Indonesians travelling through Yogya. Between them we are confident that they will be able to ensure you have a magnificent stay.

Yabbiekayu: A Yabbie is a small freshwater crustacean that lives in rivers in Australia, whilst Kayu is the Indonesian word for wood, hence the Wooden Yabbie. The name comes out of a crossover of the prior experience of the founder of Yabbiekayu running an internet publishing company in Australia where he was known as the bigyabbie. This combined with his lifelong obsession with timber, mixed with the feeling of joy of the expression "yippieayu!" lead to our unique name. In many ways the name sums up the experience of a foreigner living in a small village (pond) with a love for buildings made from natural local materials

Yabbiekayu was always intended as communal and friendly homestay, a place to meet like minded people, to relax and to act as a base for exploring the exciting range of activities that the lovely village of Tembi and the nearby city of Yogya have to offer.

At Yabbiekayu our goal is to be a model of ecologically sustainable tourism, creating quality employment for local people while sharing the remarkable experience of life in a small village in Java in sustainably built and managed bungalows. We offer a distinct Javanese style of highly personalised service and as such are here to assist you in any way to ensure your holiday is as perfect as possible, We can help out with requests from hiring motorbikes, masseurs or babysitters to finding a good optometrist, a secluded temple or an exciting art exhibition.

Our dream for Yabbiekayu is to be small, friendly, adaptable and flexible to your needs and wishes. We look forward to your visit.
