“Founded in 1446, as the Collegiate Church of St Matthew, Rosslyn Chapel today attracts visitors from far and wide, drawn by its unique and mysterious carvings and the beauty of its setting. Rosslyn Chapel came to worldwide prominence through The Da Vinci Code, a novel written by Dan Brown, which was published in 2003. In the story, the main characters, Robert Langdon and Sophie Neveu, investigate a murder in the Louvre and, in doing so, follow a set of clues to unravel a mystery, taking them to London and then to Rosslyn Chapel. It is estimated that 81 million copies of the book have been published, making it one of the most popular of all time. In 2006, a film was made, based on the book. Most of the interior scenes of the Chapel were filmed here, and the main actors Tom Hanks and Audrey Tautou, were on site for a few days. The Chapel is in the village of Roslin in Midlothian and is easily reached from Edinburgh or the Borders. There is a good bus service from Edinburgh city centre (Lothian service 37) and a number of tour companies offer trips to Rosslyn Chapel, leaving from the city centre.”

Point of Interest
“The disused railway line runs from Peniuik to Musselburgh and is well used by walkers, runners, horseriders and bikes. Takes around an hour to walk to Rosslyn Chapel along the railway line which passes the end of our road.”

“On the outskirts of the city is this small church with uniquely weird internal architecture and ornate carvings . Best known as this place where the finale of both the book and film of the Da Vinci Code takes place. The number 49 bus from the west end of Princes St will take you there”
