Amusement Park
“Nine Mile Reef, off Tweed Heads, has a reputation among locals as being a “sharky” spot. All year long, a good population of wobbegongs call the reef home, but are joined by leopard sharks in summer and grey nurse sharks in winter. But other shark species drop in from time to time, including bull sharks, bronze whalers and even the occasional hammerhead. The top of the reef sits at about 10 metres deep, dropping to 30 metres with the drop-off covered in numerous hard and soft corals. Reef fish are scattered across the shallower parts, with pelagic fish, sharks, turtles, stingrays, eagle rays and the occasional manta ray circling the reef.”

“RAINBOW BAY Rainbow Bay is suitable for beginners as well as intermediate surfers, with three points that create one of the longest right-handers in the world. The beach at Rainbow Bay is patrolled all year round and has a great sheltered swimming area close to shore, making it a popular spot for families. Book a family surfing lesson with Coolangatta Learn to Surf. Afterwards, stroll along the coastal boardwalk up to the Point Danger viewing platform where you can take in the magnificent views along the coast, and spot humpback whales from May till November. As the sun goes down, enjoy an alfresco dinner at the Rainbow Bay Surf Club.  ”
