The gas price is cheaper here than Traverse Bay.. This store is about 30 minutes before our cottage... There used to be two seniors who would sit outside on chairs and wave at everyone going by. Hence the name.

Describes directions and tips on beaches 5-15 minute drive away
from Starlight Poplars Cottage.
From our cottage, turn left onto David Avenue . Stay on David Avenue and turn right onto Hillside Road. You will pass a Trailer Park called Hillside Beach. Keep going and turn left onto Lagoon Avenue. (the sign is not that clear. ) Parking is here. There is a portapotty and a kayak / canoe launch. A causeway/marsh /path leads to Hillside Beach, .. a rugged beautiful refreshing place with white powder sand. Beautiful sunsets and moon rises.

Keep going and turn left onto Lagoon Avenue. (the sign is not that clear. ) Parking is here. There is a portapotty and a kayak / canoe launch. A causeway/marsh /path leads to Hillside Beach, .. a rugged beautiful refreshing place with white powder sand. Beautiful sunsets and moon rises.
Beaches
Grand Beach Provincial Park is known for its fine, white sand and you can walk for miles.. It's really only busy on hot days in the afternoons, otherwise its a peaceful refreshing place.

Incredible views. On highway 504, stop after the Sunrise Beach Estates sign. There is a path with a big rock in it... Park there.
Walk on this path towards the beach, take the right fork and you will find the dunes. The path continues as part of the Trans Canada Trail. Beware of quicksand by the water, especially in May. I lost a rubber boot in there!

This delightful trail, found off of Highway 59, invites you to a cedar forest and a unique ecosystem containing orchids, a bog, a fen, with interpretive trail.
Will about an hour to complete the trail, well worth experiencing.
