The beach has a river running through it that then opens out to the ocean. The river is kid-friendly and the ocean is a good option for boogie-boarders/surfers. There is a volleyball net set up by the council as well.

Viana do Castelo is a lovely historic town that retains a lot of the medieval character. A river runs south of Viana with a fenced-in kid's playground next to it. Try and take the funicular to the very top of the hill and see the Cathedral of Santa Luzia and lovely views onto River Lima and the Atlantic Ocean.
