The 899 runs from Seaton to Sidmouth. At the end of the driveway here at Ashton is considered a request stop, you need to make yourself known to the driver! The nearest formal stop is the Donkey Sanctuary. The full timetable can be found here: https://avmtbustimes.wixsite.com/mysite/service-899

The Jurassic Coast Bus Service is ideal for walkers who want to walk along a section of the coast path as they have the option of either travelling out or back by bus. There are 5 buses servicing this route. The X53 in particular allows you to enjoy some of the most spectacular views of the Jurassic Coast. The nearest train station is at Honiton. Trains go from Honiton into Exeter regularly. The service connects Exeter, Sidford, Beer, Seaton, Lyme Regis, Charmouth and Bridport amongst other places during the Summer months. From Exeter you can connect to the London mainline and further West.

Why not park at Sidford Spar Car Park and enjoy the picturesque walk to Sidmouth through The Byes! From the car park, walk through the narrow entrance at the back of the car park, then turn right, passing the football pitch, follow the Byes footpath to Sidmouth. This is a beautiful walk which starts through fields full of wildlife and continues along the River Sid meandering towards the sea. There is plenty of seating along the pathway. You enter Sidmouth near the Ford through the old Tollgate. This walk takes ¾ hour upwards.

The Ford is one of the many idiosyncratic features of Sidmouth; enjoy driving through the river Sid! On leaving Ashton, turn left onto the A3052 and drive down the steep hill. You reach a cross roads, take a left, along Fortescue Road. Follow the road until you see the Tollgate on the right, then take the turning to the left (Millford Road) before you cross the bridge. Continue down Millford Road and drive across the Ford which takes you via the back route towards the seafront and car parks.

The main beach runs alongside the elegant Esplanade, it’s the ideal place to relax. Mainly pebbles, occasionally sandy when tide recedes. Dog ban May 1 to Sept 30, but dogs are allowed at the most easterly end of the main beach. Jacobs Ladder Beach only a short walk away, a pebble beach with golden sands and rock pools to explore when the tide recedes, keeping the youngsters entertained. Dogs not permitted on beach opposite promenade area May 1 to Sept 30, but are allowed at the most westerly end of Jacobs Ladder Beach.

There is no doubt that one of the main attractions of Exmouth is its’ two miles of golden sands overlooking the estuary. Sand castle builders and rock pool investigators alongside the sun worshipers! Swim too, but do heed the warning flags. Dog ban between Maer Rocks and Octagon Kiosk, May 1 to Sept 30.

The town’s sheltered beaches are ideal for safe bathing. The low-tide golden sands and rocky outcrops beg to be explored.

Situated in a lovely sheltered bay with a pebbled beach, and there is much sailing and fishing activity to enjoy watching. A café is situated on the beach.

Reputed to be the longest village in the country, Branscombe has a super pebble beach with ample parking, where children can explore rock pools.

Very quiet, sloping Pebble beach, also used by naturists. Steep climb to and from the beach. No dog restrictions.
