If you want a break from the guided tours, but are still feeling adventurous, take a look at these suggestions.
This is a great spot if you want to go swimming in one of the local lakes, or take a scenic ski, walk, or run. It's very beautiful, just watch out and be respectful of the wildlife. And wear bug spray in the summer! It's gorgeous year-round, with groomed ski trails in the winter. Please also note that during "break up" in the spring, the trails may be closed as the snow melts and before the ground dries out to avoid making ruts.

And wear bug spray in the summer! It's gorgeous year-round, with groomed ski trails in the winter. Please also note that during "break up" in the spring, the trails may be closed as the snow melts and before the ground dries out to avoid making ruts.

Groceries
We have two local stores--Cubby's at the "Y" (intersection of the Parks Highway and the Talkeetna Spur Road). Cubby's is our larger store. It has a great deli, good selection, and is located 8 miles away from the chalet.
Nagley's, downtown Talkeetna (about 6 miles away) has a more limited selection, but if you're downtown and need some basics, it has you covered. They also hand-scoop ice cream and house the cat-mayor of Talkeetna.
