Food scene

There aren't many coffee roasters in Manitoba, so Gimli is very fortunate the have one of them. Flatland has local fresh roasted coffee all year round. Buy whole beans or have them ground, or just stop in for a delicious latte or pour over.

Kris's is a pretty small restaurant that you might easily miss or overlook, but they have extremely fresh fish in a large variety of styles. Ask for something caught locally! Pan-fried is fantastic.

Gimli is known for it's outdoor winter adventures - skating on the lake, ice fishing, Ice Festival, cross-country skiing, etc. For a small town, it has all the comforts of home with a coffee roaster, Tim Horton's, Sobey's, Co-op, Liquor Mart, Rona, Home Hardware, and Subway - as well as many unique local shops, restaurants, pubs, and artistry.

During the summer, Gimli Art Club showcases many local and talented artists. Almost every piece of art in our lake house was purchased at the Gimli Art Club. We particularly love Ainslee Davis's work. You'll find her pieces on the wall above the wood stove and next to the kitchen, in the second main floor bedroom, the room with a queen bed, and the upstairs bathroom.

Hidden treasures provides you with everything you need to create art mementos (pottery, glass, etc.) They offer the space, paint supplies, kilns, and even clean up at the end (which is a huge bonus if you have kids). I wasn’t sold on the idea at first glance but I’ve now taken my 4-year-old about 10 times. Funny thing is that my husband and I enjoy creating something as much as she does. We’ve now taken adult friends and had a fantastic time as well. You’ll find some of our “pieces” in the lakehouse (mugs, soap dispensers, butter dish). Don’t judge. We’re amateurs! 😉

Groomed trails just a short walk from the lake house.

If you walk down Dnister Road and cross over highway 222 (the road becomes "Rd 113N" at that point), you'll soon find a groomed trail for walking, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling just a few minutes walk from the lake house. If you go left the trail ends quickly, but a right turn will take you on a long trail that runs far past Gilwell Estates.
