They operate a cellar door from the cidery that is open almost every day of the year (major public holidays are generally closed.) From their cellar door you can view into the factory and on production days see the finished product being bottled up. If you’re lucky you might catch the Cidermaker at work and learn a little more about the styles of cider and methods that they use directly from him. They have an indoor and a beautiful outside area to make a casual and comfortable space to enjoy a cider tasting or a quiet drink. They recently built a kids playground and also offer an onsite food fan serving up fantastic coffee, cakes and classic food fare that the family is sure to enjoy. With ample green space around the cidery and a wonderful view onto working apple orchards it is an ideal spot for the weary traveller to rest up, let the kids have a run around.

The golf course is situated approximately 200 metres from Freers Beach and directly adjacent to the Shearwater Resort. The first 6 holes are sand based and each hole plays like a typical links course. The remaining 3 holes are further away from the beach and play very differently. The deep bunkers surrounding most greens can be difficult especially when playing a shot close to the bunker lips. The greens are usually speedy with subtle breaks making putting tricky, especially when its windy. Great recreation & exercise for all.

Enjoy the stunning cave formations, rich colours and sparkling crystals. Gunns Plains Cave is in the Gunns Plains State Reserve, approximately 45 minutes from our place. This ten hectare area was one of the earliest cave reserves in Tasmania, being proclaimed a State Reserve in 1918. The cave was discovered in 1906 by Bill Woodhouse during a hunting trip after, it is reputed, his dogs fell into a hole that formed part of the cave. It has been used as a show cave for most of the 20th century. It is renowned for its magnificent formations, including calcite shawls and flowstones, and has a glow-worm display. The cave was formed by an underground river that still flows and contains freshwater crayfish, fish and eel. Platypus sleep and nest in the sandy banks along the river. Refreshments are also available nearby.

More than just a wildlife park, Trowunna is a wildlife sanctuary and many of the animals and birds which roam freely everywhere have declined to leave after rescue and rehabilitation, or have simply invited themselves in. Their contentment is obvious, as friendly kangaroos, including mothers with joeys peeking out of their pouches, get up close and personal with visitors. Some of the animals, of necessity, are contained within enclosures, including Wombats, Quolls and, of course, fiery Tasmanian Devils, but some of these too can be seen at close range and even patted during park tours and feeding sessions throughout the day. Unseen by visitors, at night the park comes alive with smaller mammals, enjoying the safe environs of the sanctuary. Birds also abound in the park, undisturbed by predators such as cats which are not welcome at Trowunna, and you will see large numbers of Green Rosellas, only found in Tasmania, which flock to the park to enjoy its hospitality.

Only 1 & Half hours away is Cradle Mountain. The jagged contours of Cradle Mountain frame the icy waters of Dove Lake – together forming a dramatic vista that can be enjoyed as you explore the shores of the lake on foot. The dolerite peak is one of the park's natural highlights, although the wild weather of the Tasmanian highlands often shrouds the mountain in cloud. The Park offers a world-class system of walking tracks to explore that ranges from very short easy strolls to the legendary Overland Track. This 5-6 day hike stretches 80km from Cradle Mountain through to Lake St Clair and is an unforgettable journey through Tasmania’s alpine heart. Even if hiking boots and backpacks aren't your thing, you will find it hard to resist the lure of the well-formed tracks that lead you to surprising discoveries. Cradle Mountain is synonymous with nature, wilderness and all things pristine. Wildlife is in abundance in this spectacular national park, giving opportunity to encounter Tasmanian devils, quolls, platypus, echidna, wombats and the highly inquisitive black currawong.
