Chesterton is about a 20 minute drive from Michigan City. On Saturday's there is a really nice farmer's market featuring local fruits/veggies, artisan vendors, baked goods, and several food vendors. If the Rolling Stone Baker is there definitely try one of their pizzas. It is WORTH the wait.
After the market pop over to Running Vines Winery for a nice glass of wine on their outdoor patio. They feature live music every Friday and Saturday.

Not far from the home is Washington Park Zoo. Feed the goats, wave to the bears, and make silly faces at the monkeys! Your kiddos will really enjoy this unexpected little trip and it won't break the bank or take all day to get around.

Four Winds Field was just voted best MiLB park in the country. We love this park! Lots to do besides take in the game. If you have little ones, there is a splash pad and a bounce house zone. Excellent food and beverage options! On Friday's they do fireworks as well.

Sheridan Beach
Sheridan Beach is a straight shot down the road. About an 8 minute walk. There is little to no street parking. Should you choose to go to Washington Park Beach, you will need to pay to park.
Once you get to the end of Lake ave, there is a dune to walk over. This is Stop 3. I recommend going over the dune and heading to the right. Stop 2 is known as more of a party stop which would be heading to the left once you get over the dune.

Lake Michigan Safety Tips
I absolutely love having Lake Michigan in my backyard! The beach is my happy place for sure.
Safety Tips -
Bring life jackets or floatation devices
Check out the Washington Park Lifeguards page on Facebook before heading down to the beach to check the flag status. Green is good to go. Yellow is use caution. Red - steer clear of the water due to high waves and rip currents or undertows.
If you have kids, it is a good idea to talk with them about how to get out of a rip current should they find themselves in one.
