There is no doubt that a gelato shop is necessary on a hot day in Tel Aviv. Anita Ice Cream (La Mamma del Gelato) is just the place; you will find homemade baked delicacies too. You will be surprised by the unique flavors included.

It's all but impossible to restrict oneself to a single visit here. One of our favorite breakfast stops (pastries and bread are French-style and delicious), it's equally good for lunch (burgers, sabich, toasted sandwiches), afternoon coffee, aperitifs or late-night drinks. The soundtrack comes courtesy of jazz disks during the day and live bands and DJs at night.

Steps away from bobbing fishing boats, diners feast on a mostly fish and seafood menu on high tables made from wooden crates. The menu varies, but red snapper with horseradish and Jerusalem artichokes with truffles are among its delights. Local art graces the walls, and live music reverberates throughout the week. Take the chance for a relaxed walk on the walls and alleys of special Jaffa.

This stand in Shuk HaCarmel, run by Venezuelans, serves quick delicious food at a great price. An arepa is like a pancake made from corn flour which can be filled with cheese, meat, guacamole, and beans (or any combination of those). At Arepa’s they also serve a delicious cachapa, also made from corn flour, filled with grated cheese and topped with a dollop of butter. Price for anything: 25 NIS

Bar Ochel is the ideal spot for meat-lovers, located in the Carmel market: it’s quick, it’s tasty and it won’t break the bank. All the produce comes directly from the market, so really is as fresh as it gets. You can either order the meat on a plate served with fresh bread, dips and grilled vegetables, or packed full in a pita, just the way we like it. We recommend their beef kebabs. They claim they are ‘the best in Tel Aviv’ and they’re not wrong. Flavorsome and simply delicious!

Drinks & Nightlife

Another one of Chef Eyal Shani’s successes, this outdoor bar serves small delicious plates along with your alcohol. It’s usually pretty busy, but if you can’t find a table you can try any of the other places around the synagogue, they’re all good!
