Less than two hours’ drive from Adelaide, Lake Bumbunga’s bubble gum shores draw an eclectic crowd from casual photographers to high-end fashion brands. Hahndorf .Its proud German heritage still visible in its traditional streetscape with smallgoods, bakeries, cuckoo clocks, wooden folk art and German-style pubs. Hahndorf is Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement, built by Prussian settlers in 1839. Learn more at Hahndorf Academy’s migration museum or on a guided walk with Hahndorf Walking Tours. Don’t miss artisan food producers such as Udder Delights cheeses, Buzz Honey, Chocolate @ No. 5 and Harris smoked goods. Visit Hahndorf Academy, a regional arts and heritage hub in the main street, with exhibitions, museum and a shop. Just out of Hahndorf is The Cedars, home and studio of famed landscape artist, Sir Hans Heysen. Kids will be delighted to have a round of min giolf, meet some friendly animals at Hahndorf Farm Barn and pick strawberries at Beerenberg Farm (in season November to April).
