Parks & Nature

Luskentyre is perhaps the most famous of the beaches on Lewis and Harris, and for good reason. This spectacular expanse of white sands is easily one of the best beaches in northern Europe, and is well worth a visit (whatever the weather!). As is typical with the beaches of Lewis and Harris, it's not unusual to find yourself as one of only a handful of visitors.

The beach at Hushinish (Hùisinis in Scottish Gaelic) is one of the best kept secrets on the islands. Accessed via a winding single track road which leaves the main north-south road near Tarbert (the drive is not for the faint-hearted!), Hushinish offers stunning white sands and spectacular views out into the Atlantic. Hushinish is also the starting point for several good walks along the coast which offer great views of the nearby island of Scarp. Worth the drive.

Perhaps the best beach on Lewis. There is also a replica Iron Age house next to the beach which gives visitors a sense of the history this part of the island, and of the Iron Age village which once stood on this site. Given its remote location on Great Bernera, a visit to Bosta beach is probably best combined with a visit to the nearby Callanish Stones.
