A good choice for Sunday Brunch if you want to enjoy the mountain views and have unlimited food to enjoy. It's a bit of a stretch to call this place "artisanal" as, in our opinion, it's more of a quantity over quality place. However, you can definitely get your money's worth if you eat meat and/or seafood. Vegetarians and vegans will likely be disappointed. The buffet is $40 pp and best to book online in advance.

This trail climbs 537 feet in elevation, so it's strenuous but not difficult. We recommend climbing the mountain on the trail (mostly shaded) and walking back down the service road for a two mile loop hike. This woodland hike ends at a grassy meadow at top, home to friendly, grazing cows during the summer. After driving a mostly unpaved road up the mountain for two miles, park roadside at the top of the ridge. You'll see a gate in front of the service road that goes to the top. Walk around the gate and look for the big sign that marks the Bearwallow Mountain Trail.

The Trombatore Trail is a new, beautiful woodland hike to the grassy summit of Blue Ridge Pastures (elevation 3,780 feet). The 2.5-mile trail (5 miles roundtrip) was completed in late 2014. It's adjacent to another great hike to through a mountaintop pasture at Bearwallow Mountain. The popular 1.5-mile (one-way) strenuous hike to the 5,721-ft. summit provides lofty views. Coming from Asheville, look for the parking area on the left before you reach the Pisgah Inn (Milepost 407.6). The trail starts at the back of the parking area behind the large sign. You will hike in this forest, dominated by oaks, all the way to the summit. You climb all the way, and the second half is the steepest with lots of rock steps to climb up. It's a rocky trail, so wear good walking shoes.

If you would like to run or jog during your stay, this is an option that we recommend. The Lake Tomahawk trail is a flat, scenic dirt path. The loop is .55 miles. It's mostly in the sun, so on a hot day plan to jog early morning or late afternoon. (We do not recommend running on the main roads near our house because there is no shoulder and with many winding curves, it's not safe for foot traffic.) Another good option for running is the Fletcher Parks and Recreation in Fletcher, NC.

Enjoy real natural mineral water in Hot Springs NC. The Spa has outdoor tubs overlooking a creek that you can rent by the hour. The health-giving properties of this resort’s hot mineral waters have been famous since 1778. This is a great option for a cold or rainy day (we've even been there in the snow!). Rent your tub in advance by phone as they are often full on weekends. Choose the Cascade tub for a real VIP experience...perfect for a romantic celebration.
