The Backyard Bungalow! Big Living; Small House

The Backyard Bungalow - featured on Portland's ADU tour - is the perfect hideaway amidst uncertain times. With its own secluded pathway, and detached from the main house, it offers as much privacy as desired. Once inside however, its 16ft vaulted ceiling and sunlit open-plan living area surprises with a sense of spaciousness and comfort. Its inner SE location is walking distance to Division St. restaurants and cafes, food carts, parks and playgrounds, as well as being a "biker's paradise".

My wife, Raechel, and I originally designed and built this ADU ( accessory dwelling unit ) with the intention of living there full time, but due to a change of plans, it's available to you. The space was designed by Buckenmeyer Architecture, and was constructed by me. Our space features many unique elements such as: burnt cedar siding, 16' multi-slide window wall (please open and close slowly), and moveable cedar slat screens/ We hope you enjoy the space and neighborhood as much as we do!

We've dubbed this stunning, fully detached studio the "Lighthouse" because of the way natural light pours through the 550-square-foot studio's many windows and dances off its walls and vaulted ceilings. The guest cottage offers self check-in. It is located in a quiet neighborhood in SE Portland. High ceilings make this studio airy and bright. We think of it as a perfect hotel room without the hotel. The small galley kitchen has everything you need to cook a gourmet meal including filtered water. There is a full bathroom with tub and shower.
