A large tidal lagoon in the center of Oakland, just east of Downtown. It is surrounded by parkland and city neighborhoods. On any given day you’ll find folks picnicking, leisurely walking or running around the 3 mile perimeter of the lake. Rent a boat or gondola for a romantic sail on the lake. At dusk, the lake comes alive with lights necklaced all around the waterline. During the holidays, you will notice carolers singing on a catamaran with Santa leading the sail.

Lake Merritt is home to the United States' oldest designated wildlife refuge dating from 1870. Often referred to as Oakland’s “jewel”, it is a 20 minute walk from the studio. It’s circumference is 3.4 miles and is surrounded by a multi-use path popular with walkers, joggers and bicyclists.
