The still operating post office has now a new Visitors Centre which shows all the history on 1916 Freedom Revolution. Tip: Before you enter the centre, there is a large model of the An Post which has information through a touch screen....make sure you watch it while its gives a lot of interesting information on the history of the actual building which was once upon a time somebody's home!

The GPO is Ireland's Post Office Headquarters and the last of the great Georgian Buildings to be built in Dublin back in 1814. It was vital during the Irish War of Independence as it served as the headquarters of the uprising's leaders. If you go close up to the main columns at the front of the building you can actually see the bullet holes in the columns from 1916 Easter rising where Irish rebels where under attack from British soldiers.

The General Post Office (The GPO) is the headquarters of the Irish Post Office, An Post, and Dublin's principal post office. Sited in the centre of O'Connell Street, the city's main thoroughfare, it is one of Ireland's most famous buildings, and was the last of the great Georgian public buildings erected in the capital.
