The Frontier Culture Museum is near historic Staunton. It's a bit further at about 50-55 minutes but is so much fun. Highly recommended if you enjoy history.

Our kids loved this growing up. Less than 40-minute drive, it's worth it. Head to Wright's Dairy Rite afterwards: "Old-school drive-in turning out sandwiches & shakes in retro booth seating or delivered to the car."
