The history of Shinsen-en (神泉苑) traces back to 794, when this garden was built leveraging a natural pond. After the capital was moved from Nara to Kyoto in the year, the garden was used for various events by emperors and monks. Shinsen-en Heihachi (神泉苑平八) is famous for its thickest udon noodle in their hot pot. The restaurant also offers kaiseki and beef dishes such as sukiyaki and shabushabu. You can enjoy the meals, watching the beautiful garden. I don't know why but there are not so many tourists here.
